JET Jacksonville - Prajna Students Volunteer Service

Jai Srimannarayana!

JET Jacksonville conducted its first Service Event at the Jacksonville Hindu Temple by cleaning the temple premises and doing Garden work. The purpose of this event is to increase awareness among children about environment protection and inculcate seva activites in them through their participation. Children were accompanied by parents who also participated in the service activity with enthusiasm.

The event started with children chanting Slokas lead by Prajna Coordinator Usha Puranam.
Later children split into multiple teams which were lead by some parents to do the work.
Children and volunteers collected trash within the temple premises to keep the environment clean near the place of worship. Trash was accumulated during various events at the temple over a period of time. Children also picked up piles of dry leaves and other material in temple garden and near the parking area. Existing rose plants were pruned by parents and a few more plants were planted by children and volunteers in the garden area. Towards the end, Parents exhibited interest to participate in the upcoming JET Activities.

Our Prajna Coordinators (Shanta Rayaprolu, Suryakala Eranki and Usha Puranam) came up with this idea and successfully coordinated the event in a timely manner. Small donations were collected from the students as a contribution towards JETUSA.

Temple authorities (Visweswara Nayar) supported this event by sponsoring plants and other garden supplies.

Needless to say, this is another JET event which is done as a SERVICE TO GOD.
